Secret facilities refer to locations where classified work is conducted, often associated with unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), clandestine operations, or black budget projects. These may include deep underground military bases (DUMBs), off-world sites, or facilities unacknowledged by official records.

Types

Public-facing (white world)

These facilities conduct classified activities but are publicly acknowledged. Their locations are known, marked on maps, and sometimes even partially accessible to the public. Examples include CIA headquarters at Langley and the NSA complex at Fort Meade, where vast amounts of compartmentalized HUMINT are processed. Despite their transparency in location, unauthorized disclosure of their activities can pose extreme risks.

Unacknowledged (grey world)

Grey world facilities are those whose existence may not be explicitly denied but whose purpose and operations remain classified. Examples include continuity of government bunkers, such as Site-R and the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, as well as defense contractor sites. These locations often support highly sensitive operations, including testing emerging technologies or facilitating emergency preparedness.

Denied (black sites)

Black sites operate entirely outside the realm of official acknowledgment. Their existence, activities, and purpose are categorically denied, with extreme measures taken to suppress any unauthorized disclosures. Extraordinary rendition airfields, covert research and development complexes, and certain CIA prisons exemplify this category. These facilities are rumored to exist both domestically and internationally, often shielded by compartmentalized secrecy and plausible deniability.
